Advice For Patients On Admission To Hospital

All Private Hospitals will insist that patients or their families should sign an admission form which contains a clause entitled “Indemnity/Waiver”, or the form might not have a heading but contain words removing the liability of the Hospital for any harm suffered by the Patient, as a result of any act or omission by Hospital Staff.

You and/your family member admitting you, if you are incapacitated, should put a line through the Indemnity/Waiver clauses and initial next to that part of the document.

Should the Admission Clerk not be prepared to process admission, demand to see the Hospital Manager and loudly voice your objection in the Reception Area.

This usually results in the admission clerk, matron or hospital manager agreeing to the amendment. It is important that you do this, as should you or your family member being admitted to the Hospital suffer harm as a result of negligence on the part of the Hospital Staff, or faulty equipment; you will not be able to claim damages from the Hospital despite lifelong disability and suffering.
