Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery relates to a set of Elective Surgical procedures that are typically done to repair or  improve the physical appearance of a patient.
Here is a list of possible complications that arise out of someone undergoing Cosmetic Surgery:
  • Breast reduction failure with loss of nipples due to infection
  • Death following systemic shock due to excessive liposuction
  • Corneal ulceration following excessive eyelid skin removal
  • Uncontrollable infection following abdominal reduction and breast enlargement
  • Damage  by drugs:
    • Inappropriate medication resulting in anaphylactic shock
    • Quadriplegia - anti-coagulant (blood thinning) medicated patient prescribed anti inflammatory drugs resulting in spinal cord haemorrhagia (bleeding)
  • Failed endoscopic procedures.  Endoscopes are flexible rubber tubes which contain a camera and a light.  These tubes are inserted into the part of the body requiring surgery and the surgeon is able to pass surgical instruments, lasers, water and medication through the tube.  In this way the traditional large openings required by many forms of surgery is no longer necessary and patients are often able to go home and return to work within days of the procedure compared to the weeks and months required by traditional surgery.
    • Unfortunately there are surgeons who fail to receive proper training or fail to keep up with the latest techniques or who utilise inappropriate scopes.
    • The most common risks of endoscopic procedures involve the cutting of internal organs including the intestines, liver and arteries.
