| Emergency Room Negligence |
|
An Emergency Room (or ER) is a room in a clinic or a hospital that is equipped with medical staff and medical equipment which sole purpose is dealing with the treatment of people requiring immediate medical treatment. There are however several things that can go wrong in an Emergency room due to medical negligence, here are a few examples:
Many medical emergencies occur at night or on weekends and when patients are unable to access their regular doctors. In addition emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, serious drug allergies and accidents require admission to the casualty units of State and private hospitals. The most common form of negligence in casualty units is the failure to properly diagnose the patients condition resulting often in patients whose heart or brain arteries are about to burst being sent home or stroke victims being kept waiting for hours without having special x-rays to diagnose the stroke or receiving special drugs to dissolve the brain clot. Most stroke victims who are taken to hospital quickly and who receive proper treatment will recover. Many after hours casualty units are staffed by very young and inexperienced doctors who are often trained in African or Eastern European countries where standards are very low. There is also often a language problem.
